Banksia Spinulosa
Uploaded: July 24, 2009 00:03:47
Just one of the members of the Banksia family. They are an Australian native flower. This particular family member is found on the east coast of Australia. This one (and many others) I came across on my walk the other day. They flower in the middle of winter.
Banksias are named after the botanist Joseph Banks who sailed with Captain Cook on the Endeavour in 1770.

Paul - what a treat to see such a great image of Banksia! I visited Sydney in April and had a day tour in the Blue Mountains where we saw Banksia shrubs with seed heads. What a sight! Thanks so much for your great background story - it too is captivating! #7787357John Connolly July 30, 2009
