About John Zimmerman
JOHN ZIMMERMAN
I have been an avid photographer for over 30 years. Born and raised in Montreal, my love of photography grew out of my love of hockey. I enjoyed bringing his camera with him to games and photographing the players. I have always seemed to have an eye for capturing special moments on film. Without any formal training I honed my craft by trial and error. When I was asked what type of photography I specialized in, I would always say I didn’t specialize in any one area, I just photographed things that caught his eye. Nature, sports, people, events and travel, it didn’t matter. If it got my attention I tried to capture it.
About 4 years ago I made the switch from shooting with film to the digital world. Although I never had a darkroom before, I am now able to do my entire photo processing on my computer. I can do my own printing up to sizes 13” x 19”.
I was a member of the Lakeshore Camera Club for a number of years and now a member of the Montreal Camera Club where I recently achieved the rank of “Expert Pictorialist”. I am also a member or the Canadian Association of Photographic Art, the Photographic Society of America and the Royal Photographic Society.
I have won many local, national and international awards for my photography. Including many competitions won on the internet. I taken part in photo exhibitions in the Montreal area. My work has also been on display at Time Square in New York City on the Kodak electronic billboard.
I donate my time and photos for charity and the community. I have a collection of photographs that I donated to the Jewish General Hospital which are on display at the Cardiac Care unit on the 2nd floor. I also donate photographs for charity auctions. I recently photographed an event for the Montreal Ovarian Cancer Initiative, The Missing Children’s Network and has had many photographs published in the Suburban Newspaper. I am also a regular contributor to the bulletin of the Shaare Zion Congregation.
